I had the pleasure to attend the 'Annual Cadentown Neighborhood Picnic & Political Forum' on July 27. An official tour was conducted of this historic area consisting of longtime family homes, church and schoolhouse. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a lovely afternoon of good company, good food and wonderful entertainment. A local musical group, "Cross Country", performed (with Cadentown resident Mr. Horace Nelson on drums and vocals) while attendees enjoyed the delicious picnic fare provided by the neighborhood association.
Ms. Jonetta Young and Mrs. Tyrona Nelson organized a team of residents and other volunteers to provide an afternoon that I will personally remember for many years to come. Ms. Young and Mrs. Nelson were also kind enough to be the moderators for the political forum that included several local and state candidates. Ms. Young explained that the group wished to recreate the old-fashioned 'soapbox in the townsquare' setting that was so common throughout local communities years ago. Concerning the political forum, the moderators were very professional (considering this was their first time conducting a forum) and all the candidates in attendance were very generous, kind and, at times humorous, in conveying their viewpoints and campaign platforms.
A good time was had by all.
Perusing the internet, I was able to locate the following this Cincinnati Enquirer article: |

"On Wednesday, August 21, I had the honor and privilege of speaking before the board members of the Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors. I would like to thank Kevin Maines, LBAR's Director of Government Affairs, for extending the invitation for me to lunch and meet with Lexington's area realtors and real estate brokers. Board President Jim Broadwater and Executive Vice-President Elaine Hangis were both kind and generously hospitable towards me and the other attending guests. Good company and good food! As I have stated before, as the New PVA, I plan to work with Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors in order to increase public awareness of the Property Tax Homestead Exemption and to, also, increase local citizenry access to public records of property assessments. Once I am elected, I believe that LBAR and the New PVA Office will have an excellent working relationship that will result in great economic and housing benefits to residents and property owners throughout the Lexington-Fayette County community."

"Thank you to the Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors, Homebuilders Association, Kentucky Association of Realtors and Lexington Apartment Association for hosting such an exceptional 'Barbecue' at the lovely Donamire Farm on September 10. It was a fantastic opportunity for the local candidates to interact with so many members of these fine associations. I was especially moved by the poignant 9/11 presentation. I was sorry to hear that Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ball were unable to attend the festivities. Lovely evening weather, fun entertainment, and visitors from all over the state---all this set on a beautiful Kentucky Farm."
